Marimekko Skirts

Marimekko Skirts
Design by Claire Nelson (2007)

This may sound funny, but before I opened the shop I was nervous about what I would wear every day for my new job as shopgirl. I didn't want to fret every morning about how to dress, so I decided to create a little uniform for myself. I copied Martha Stewart and bought a half-dozen simple classic Oxford shirts -- black and white though, not her signature blue. And then I found a whole bunch of Marimekko fabric at Haberman Fabrics and enlisted the talented dressmaker Linda Nakashima to whip up some simple A-line skirts. These and others served me well through the first season or two. I don't often wear them anymore, but I still adore them. Who doesn't love Marimekko?
