Shop Detroit
Design by Claire Nelson (2005-8)
The first year we organized a "Shop Detroit" event for Detroit Synergy, it was just a group of friends who each made personal pledges to do their holiday shopping in the city. We hoped, by example, to debunk the perception that there weren't enough retail options downtown. Over time, as the annual December event grew, so did the number of boutiques and galleries. The identity I created the first year would eventually evolve into a newer, better one by the talented Michelle DiMercurio after I retired from Synergy's Steering Team. But I would come back in 2008 to design and produce the reusable black shopping totes (bearing a helpful list of independent downtown shops) to give out to happy shoppers.
